二、阅读理解 (共 4 道试题,共 48 分)
15.Why play games? Because they are fun, and we can learn even more while playing. Following the rules, planning your next move, acting as a team member — these are all “game” ideas that you will come across all through your life. They can help you in different ways. Think about some of the games you played as a young child, such as rope-jumping and hide-and-seek. Such games are very interesting. But perhaps more importantly, they translate part of life into exciting games that teach children some of the basic rules they will be expected to follow the rest of their lives, such as taking turns and cooperating (合作). Many children’s games have a practical side. Children around the world play games that prepare them for work they will do as grown-ups. For example, some Saudi Arabian children play a game called bones, which improves the hand-eye coordination (协调) needed in fishing. The most famous games of all, the Olympic Games, bring athletes from around the world together to take part in friendly competitions. People who watch the event (比赛项目) know that a gold medal is a win for the whole country, not just the athlete who got it. For countries experiencing natural disasters (灾害) or wars, an Olympic win can mean so much. Sports games are also an event that unites (团结) people. Football is the most popular sport in the world. People all over the world play it — some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a Californian football player, has discovered a way to spread hope through football. He created a foundation (基金会) to provide poor children with not only soccer balls but also a bright future. Next time you play your favorite game or sport, think about why you enjoy it, what skills are needed, and whether these skills will help you in other parts of your life.
(1).What are children expected to learn when they play games?
A.To act as a team leader.
B.To follow the basic rules.
C.To train how to move fast.
D.To practice rope-jumping.
(2).What can we learn from the passage?
A.Games can help everybody to make much money.
B.Games can turn real-life experiences into a story.
C.Games can make skill learning more interesting.
D.Games can prevent all the countries from disasters.
(3).What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Games can help people in different ways.
B.People are advised to play games for fun.
C.An Olympic win means a lot to every country.
D.Sports can get people all over the world together.

18.It is bad to have food stuck between your teeth for long periods of time. This is because food attracts germs(细菌), germs produce acid, and acid hurts your teeth and gums. Flossing(使用牙线) helps to remove the food that gets stuck between your teeth. This explains why flossing helps to keep your mouth healthy, but some doctors say that flossing can be also good for your heart. It may seem strange that something your do for your teeth can have any effect on your heart. Doctors have come up with a few ideas about how flossing works to keep your heart healthy. One idea is that the germs that hurt your teeth can leave the mouth and travel into your blood. Germs that get into the blood can then attack your heart. Another idea is based on the fact that when there are too many germs in your mouth, the body tries to fight against these germs. For some reason, the way the body fight these mouth germs may end up weakening the heart over time. Not every doctor agrees about these ideas. Some doctors think that the link between good flossing habits and good heart health is only a coincidence. The incidence(发生率) of two or more events is completely random, as they do not admit of any reliable cause and effect relationship between them. For example, every time I wash my car, it rains. This does not mean that when I wash my car, I somehow change the weather. This is only a coincidence. Similarly, some doctors think that people who have bad flossing habits just happen to also have heart problems, and people who have good flossing habits just happen to have healthy hearts. The theory that flossing your teeth helps to keep your heart healthy might not be true. But every doctor agrees that flossing is a great way to keep your teeth healthy. So even if flossing does not help your heart, it is sure to help your teeth. This is enough of a reason for everyone to floss their teeth every day.
(1).From the passage, we know that_____
A.food stuck between your teeth may hurt your teeth
B.all of the doctors agree that flossing is good for your heart
C.doctors’ judgment about flossing is based on medical research
D.not every doctor thinks flossing helps to keep your teeth healthy
(2).The underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 is to____.

B.Make a comparison
C.Introduce a new topic
D.Develop a previous statement
(3).Which of the following best states the main idea of the last paragraph?_______.
A.It is a fact that flossing can help your heart as well as your teeth.
B.There is no good reason to believe that flossing will help your heart.
C.Because doctors find flossing won’t help your heart, it is useless to floss.
D.Even if flossing is only good for your teeth, you should still do it every day.

21.During the winter holiday season, we often see an increase in the amount of rubbish we produce in our homes. As you prepare to celebrate the holidays, follow the simple instructions in this article to help cut the amount of rubbish produced in your home. For gift-giving: ◆ Homemade gifts, such as cards, often produce less rubbish and can be a treasure to receive. This is a great idea for children to try. When wrapping (包装) gifts: ◆ Use gift bags instead of wrapping paper. Gift bags are reusable and not as likely to go out with the rubbish. If you receive gifts in gift bags, be sure to store them away for future use. When entertaining: ◆ Avoid the use of plastic forks, spoons and knives as much as possible. Bring out your favorite dishes for special holidays, and buy a holiday tablecloth to avoid using disposable (一次性的) paper or plastic ones. After the holidays: ◆ Store your reusable decorations until next year. ◆ Sort out and store reusable gift bags and gift wrap. By making a few simple changes in our holiday habits, we can cut the amount of rubbish we produce between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. And remember to continue these habits year round for a better environment for today and tomorrow’s world.

25.The death of Steve Jobs provides a chance to take some lessons from his amazing life. Steve Jobs had a passion (激情) for education. He may be gone, but we still have a chance to learn from his courage and innovation (革新). Making Mistakes I think that the main reason why we can’t find proper ways to improve the education system that no longer serves us well is simply fear. Fear of failure. Fear of getting it wrong. Teachers fear that innovation could endanger their jobs. Steve had the attitude we need in education right now. “Sometimes when you create something, you make mistakes. It is best to admit (承认) them and get on with improving your other innovations.” That’s the kind of spirit that we need to have. Motivation (动机) Matters We’ve concentrated (专注于) so much on results that we don’t always reward good motivations. But these things are very important. In our schools, we’ve cared so much about test results that we’ve lost creativity. We don’t reward students for their hard work, and we punish failure. As a result, we lost imagination and found no motivation to try something that has a chance of ending in failure. What Defines (定义) Failure? The company that Steve Jobs started in 1985 after being forced out of Apple shows us how technology could influence educational innovation. In 1985 he started NeXT. The company was providing computers for educational purposes. NeXT wasn’t really financially (经济上) successful. But it may have been ahead of its time. Today, we see what the technology brings into the classroom. Changing Our Model The company sold around 50,000 computers. But that would be missing the point. It was a NeXTcube workstation that encouraged the first web server. It helped in the development of early Internet technology. Truly, Steve Jobs has taught us that results are not the most important things in life.
(1).The article tells us making mistakes_______.
A.is always something very bad
B.will help us become better people
C.is a part of making something new
D.will keep us from reaching our dreams
(2).We may lose our creativity and imagination if we_______.
A.make a lot of mistakes
B.fail to have a right model
C.can’t be financially successful
D.concentrate too much on results
(3).Steve Jobs might agree that_______.
A.a good motivation can lead to a successful result
B.we shouldn’t be afraid of failure and it can lead to success
C.making money is the only way to judge success
D.having a passion is the most important thing for success
(4).According to the article, which word can best describe Steve Jobs’ spirit?
A.Passion.
B.Motivation.
C.Innovation.
D.Creativity.
